As a D5100 owner I still love it, the next upgrade will be full frame. I don't think I would switch to the Sony A 3000 as there are so many dx lenses out there for the D5100, I could see myself recommending this to someone who is a novice, who's looking for their first non pocket camera. Pretty much all my photos are taken with the d5100 http://www.flickr.com/photos/wavesummit
