This can be seen fairly clearly in the examples below, on the right the negative digital exposure compensation has revealed some more detail on the shirt but this comes with a blueish color cast as one or more of the color channels clips (There's also some quite impressive purple fringing from the kit lens in the bottom shot).

Reviews Word on the street for the Sony Alpha DSLR-A200

7.0
There are direct-access controls for ISO sensitivity, exposure compensation, and drive/bracketing/self-timer modes, while flash, AF, white balance, AF area, and D-RangeOptimizer settings are grouped under a screen pulled up by the Fn button.

What People Are Saying Give it to me straight

Sensor

The A200's measured resolution is quite remarkable for a 10MP sensor and up there with the best in class.
by DPReview (Jul, 2008)
While at base ISO the Sony's output is fairly clean and detailed (though not very good at low-contrast detail) things go downhill once you dim the lights and switch your camera to a higher ISO setting.
by DPReview (Jul, 2008)
At ISO 400 chroma and luminance noise starts to become visible in the Sony crops although at the same time the camera manages to maintain relatively good detail.
by DPReview (Jul, 2008)

Iso

The main differences are the larger screen, ISO 3200 and High ISO noise reduction on the A200.
by DPReview (Jul, 2008)
What you don't get is an indication of ISO speed, so make sure you switch the sensitivity back to a lower value after shooting High ISO images, otherwise you might find a 'noisy surprise' in your images when checking them on your computer.
by DPReview (Jul, 2008)
Both cameras produce remarkably good output at base ISO (with the exception of low-contrast detail) but once you increase the sensitivity things go slightly downhill.
by DPReview (Jul, 2008)

Image quality

In each Creative Style mode you can adjust contrast, saturation (not in b/w mode) and sharpness.
by DPReview (Jul, 2008)
The color rendition is fairly similar on both cameras though.
by DPReview (Jul, 2008)
Dynamic range is quite impressive too, especially in the highlight areas.
by DPReview (Jul, 2008)

Screen

Unlike the A700, you can't change settings directly via the information display (Quick Navi).
by c|net (Mar, 2008)
Unfortunately you can't 'interact' with this screen and directly change settings.
by DPReview (Jul, 2008)
The camera takes a little longer to start-up and display an image in record review than most of its direct competitors but in a real-life situation that's hardly ever an issue.
by DPReview (Jul, 2008)

Noise

In this comparison the EOS1000D delivers arguably the best balance between image detail and noise reduction.
by DPReview (Jul, 2008)
This additional noise reduction attempts to address both chroma and luminance noise.
by DPReview (Jul, 2008)
In fact the A200's JPEG engine always applies some noise reduction and the High ISO noise reduction is additional.
