Looking at equivalent raw format images shows how much noise reduction is applied to JPEG images – it's quite heavy handed, but that helps to keep the image looking clean.

Nikon J4 review

Despite there being a dedicated record button (also on the top of the camera), you can't actually start recording unless in Video Mode – which is again a little frustrating.
You can either use the directional keys to move to the setting you want to change, or simply tap the screen itself on the setting you wish to use.

Nikon 1 J4 tested at DxOMark

If you are still wondering what was improved/changed in the Nikon 1 J4 camera, see this comparison with the previous J3 model.
We like the contemporary looks, small size, impressive AF and of course the system is maturing.
The lightweight and sleek WP-N3 waterproof housing perfectly fits the Nikon 1 J4 and S2 and maintains your access to key camera controls and buttons.
Additionally, ISO Sensitivity Noise Reduction is now available to help render amazing images when shooting at high ISO ranges by “stacking” multiple (4) shots to help achieve clear and consistent photos even in difficult low-light shooting scenarios.
