The camera produces reasonably sharp images without introducing excessive edge halos, although you can easily improve on these by shooting Raw images and processing them yourself.

Reviews Word on the street for the Canon Rebel T5i

With the EOS 700D, Canon continues its tradition of very good image quality for both stills and video shooting and provides a well-executed touchscreen implementation that makes this one of the more enjoyable to use novice-oriented DSLRs on the market.

While a 13x19 print of an ISO 6400 photo wasn't quite as clean or sharp as I would have liked, it doesn't look that bad.

We found that the vari-angle screen provides a good, clear view with lots of detail visible even in quite bright light, making it very useful when composing images at ground level or above head-height.

What People Are Saying Give it to me straight

Using an extension tube has restricted depth of field, but there's lots of detail in the sharp areas of this shot, taken in early morning light.

The ability to use in-camera lens profiles to correct for vignetting and chromatic aberration adds even more value to a camera line that has long been a solid performer.
by DPReview (Jun, 2013)
Image quality is pretty typical for a kit zoom - it's not great wide open, but perfectly OK when stopped down.

The main power switch surrounds the mode dial; flicking it beyond the ON position to the movie camera icon sets the camera into movie mode.

Flicking it beyond the ON position to the movie camera icon puts the camera into movie mode.
by DPReview (Jun, 2013)
The power switch surrounds the rather crowded-looking mode dial, and has an additional position for movie recording, meaning you can quickly switch to video from any exposure mode.

A 5fps shooting speed makes it a useful option for those who want to capture recreational sports or fast action.
by DPReview (Jun, 2013)
This type of performance is well suited for soccer moms and others who shoot recreational sports.
by DPReview (Jun, 2013)
It is an excellent choice of camera for anyone wanting to take their photography more seriously, shoot from creative angles or start recording videos.

It's worth noting that both the EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM and more affordable EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM kit zooms feature extremely quiet autofocus mechanisms, a definite plus for video shooters whether using the built-in mics or a hotshoe-mounted external unit.
by DPReview (Jun, 2013)
Overall, while Canon says that the Hybrid AF system means live view focus is considerably improved, it still says there is a noticeable performance difference between live view AF and using the conventional autofocus sensor.
by DPReview (Jun, 2013)
The 18-55mm STM can focus impressively close, down to just 11cm from the front of the lens (in manual focus anyway - the camera won't autofocus quite so close).
by DPReview (Jun, 2013)

In-camera JPEGs display a pleasing balance between image detail and noise suppression at all but perhaps the highest ISO settings, although more advanced users will reap even greater image quality by processing Raw images, whether in Canon's fully-featured Digital Photo Professional software or in a third party offering.
by DPReview (Jun, 2013)
For users moving up from compact cameras, the 700D offers a very significant increase in image quality and a comfortable to hold camera wrapped in an interface that accommodates both touchscreen and external control operation.
by DPReview (Jun, 2013)
If we have any complaint, it's that the main menu icons, particularly the tabs along the top are a bit small and too closely spaced to accurately activate by touch.
